Some Tottenham fans believe that chairman Daniel Levy should have cut his losses over the summer with Harry Kane and brought in a fresh set of talent instead following his dismal

Tottenham fans believe chairman Daniel Levy should have sold Harry Kane and "done a Coutinho" after his dismal display in their defeat to Chelsea.

Philippe Coutinho was sold by Liverpool to Barcelona for an initial £105 million plus add-ons in 2018.

Famously, with the money from his sale they brought in a number of key players, including Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker.

With their new group of players under Jurgen Klopp, they went on to win the Champions League in 2018–19 season and Premier League for the first time in their history in 2019–20 season.

And Spurs fans feel that Levy - who had fought tooth and nail with Manchester City when they bid for the striker in June- should have cut his losses, taken the money, and rebuilt the squad without their second all-time goalscorer.

Harry Kane has scored 223 goals for Spurs in 341 appearances - but some feel the club would have been better served with the money instead

Spurs were thrashed by Chelsea 3-0, with Kane cutting a frustrated figure.

One disgruntled fan phoned in BBC Five Live and said: “The last two performances have shown that actually, we should have sold Kane."

Another tweeted, which got over 1,000 likes, said: “Should have sold Kane when we had the chance and rebuilt this team like Liverpool did with Coutinho”

Kane has so far failed to register a goal in the Premier League this season - scoring on two occasions in the Europa Conference League.

Following the encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Roy Keane provided a no-nonsense assessment of his performance.

He said: “He scored against Poland – they're no mugs. But for the closing down, he's your top man.

“Knock someone open, shout at people! I never see him digging anyone out. There's a bit of a hangover from the summer that would be my concern.

"Sprint at people, get hold of the ball! At 2-0 down, he tried this Roy of the Rovers move. It was never going to work.'
